Mama This Ones For You
In honor of my beautiful mother who transitioned and lost her battle to cancer 28 years ago today…Mama this ones for you! I was recently listening to a podcast with David Kessler who is a grief expert. He was talking about a sixth stage in grief-Finding Meaning and through meaning we can find more than pain. After the devastating loss of my mother, I think intuitively my sisters and I knew that in order to heal from this we had to find meaning in her death as well as the meaning of her life. Of course this was not an easy task because ultimately we wanted her here with us and there is no real end to grief. Looking back on it now is when I realized how this is what truly helped us heal…giving her story and her life meaning. We carried on her traditions, shared her story, shared her laughter and jokes, shared her creativity and special touches and shared her deep love of family, friends and gatherings. I remember after my dad passed away a few years later, also in December, the priest asked us if we could give meaning as to why they both passed in December and it was easy to answer because they both loved Christmas and the family celebrations that came with it. They always made Christmas special at our house! We continue to celebrate her life and the life of all our loved ones that have passed by remembering and sharing together their love of family as we gather together. Mom you truly were a blessing in our lives!
